Protect Your Water Ionizer:
Water harness is a major problem for any home owners who have to deal with it, but especially for those who have invested in an alkaline water ionizer. There are several strategies available to water ionizer owners to control the damaging effects of hard water. You can install the Magnetizer Hard Water Magnets which inhibits calcium and magnesium ions from being deposited on surfaces. We also carry our very convenient softening cartridge which works great as a supplement to countertop filter applications. If your water ionizer allows you to use a citric acid cleaning cartridge, you should use it more than once a year if is even slightly hard. Please call us for more tips. Monitoring and controlling hardness is absolutely essential in order to prevent scaling and corrosion and the destruction of your water ionizer.

Is Your Water Hard?

Water Hardness Classification

very soft 0-70 mg/L
soft 70-150 mg/L
slightly hard 150-250 mg/L
moderately hard 250-320 mg/L
hard 320-420 mg/L
very hard 420 mg/L and above

Water is categorized as very soft (0-70 mg/L), soft (70-150 mg/L), slightly hard (150-250 mg/L), moderately hard (250-320 mg/L), hard (320-420 mg/L) and very hard (420 mg/L and above), according to the hardness scale. Our hard water test kit cover all of these ranges. If you have hard water you need to take steps to control the damage it can cause to your pipes and water appliances. Anyone planning on buying a water ionizer should test their water for hardness. If your water is hard, you need to buy an ionizer that allows the use of a citric acid cleaning cartridge to help reduce calcium build up in your machine or one that has a truly state of the art internal cleaning system like the Samsung Vesta. Customers with hard water should also install the Magnetizer Hard Water Conditioner magnets.

Understanding HARDNESS in drinking water.
As mentioned above hard water is high in dissolved the minerals calcium and magnesium. As water flows through soil and rock, it dissolves small amounts of these naturally-occurring minerals and carries them into the ground water supply. Water is a great solvent for calcium and magnesium, so if the minerals are present in the soil around your well and its water supply, you can end up with hard water.

Hard water interferes with almost every cleaning task, from doing the laundry to washing dishes to taking a shower. Clothes can look dingy and feel rough and scratchy. Dishes and glasses get spotted and a film may build up on shower doors, bathtubs, sinks and faucets. Washing your hair in hard water may leave it feeling sticky and dull. Finally, hard water can cause a residue to build-up in pipes that can lower water pressure throughout the house.

What are the health effects of Hardness?
Hardness does not pose a health risk and is not regulated by state or federal agencies. In fact, calcium and magnesium in your drinking water can help ensure you get the average daily requirements for these minerals in your diet. An alkaline water ionizer needs these minerals in the water to actually do its miraculous job of making alkaline and antioxidant water.

However hard water can damage your ionizer over time. You should monitor the hardness of your water and make sure that the steps you are taking are effective. Hard water can also be a nuisance due to the mineral buildup on plumbing fixtures and poor soap and detergent performance. It often causes aesthetic problems, such as build-up of scale on pipes and fixtures than can lead to lower water pressure; build-up of deposits on dishes, utensils and laundry basins; difficulty in getting soap and detergent to foam; and lowered efficiency of electric water heaters.
